Kym’s enews Message — 31 October 2019

It’s that time of year again and 2020-21 State Budget Priorities Submissions are front of mind for those working for and within the sector.

The Budget Priorities Submission process provides a valuable opportunity to set out what we want to achieve as a community services industry in the short-, medium- and long-term.

To assist in the process, TasCOSS has prepared a step-by-step guide to preparing a Budget Priorities Statement.

The guide walks you through the major components of the submission, including suggested structure, determining key focus areas, gathering supporting evidence and providing costings for your recommendations.

The upcoming Lunch with Tasmania’s Treasurer, the Hon Peter Gutwein MP affords our Members a valuable opportunity to share and workshop key focus areas with industry colleagues and peers.

When we are clear in our vision and priorities for Tasmania, governments have no choice but the respond and allocate resources.

Initiatives that alleviate the despair of poverty — a day-to-day reality for 120,000 people living in Tasmania — are a priority of TasCOSS.

We know that addressing poverty starts with addressing the barriers which reinforce it. Barriers to employment, education and training, housing and health care.

The way in which we support Tasmanians to participate lies at the heart of our states fortunes, and it is their hopes and aspirations for a good life which should provide the reference point for our direction moving forward.
