The BPS Process
Each year TasCOSS provides the Department of Treasury with our recommendations on how we believe Government resources should be invested through the State Budget to improve the lives of low income and disadvantaged Tasmanians.
TasCOSS’ annual Budget priority Statement (BPS) is our most important single piece of social policy work, as it not only details the community sector’s priority issues for the next State Budget, but also sets the agenda for our broader social policy advocacy work over the coming 12 months.
TasCOSS staff onsult with our members and constituent organisations to identify the priority issues and recommendations for BPS. Although the specific issues and recommendations contained in our BPS aredirectly influenced by this consultation process, it is also important to fully engage the Tasmanian Social Policy Council (TSPC) to determine the key policy directions and priority issues in the submission.
The initial stages of the BPS process provide the TSPC with an opportunity to determine TasCOSS’ major policy positions and to establish the priority social issues for the BPS. It also provides an opportunity for the TSPC to determine its own social policy priorities for the coming year.
